چکیده

Results of more than 130 field trials with nematicides, principallyaldicarb, weregroupedaccordingto the claycontent and parent material of the soil on which the trials were conducted. An estimate of loss in yield due to nematodes was obtained by extrapolating from the results of the field trials to the total area under sugarcane on each soil group. Crop loss per unit area was greatest on the Recent Sands, but the estimated total crop loss was much greater on the more extensive soils derived from Table Mountain Sandstone. The results suggest that nematodes restrict the growth of cane over a very much greater area than that where nematicides are currently used. The financial implications of this are considerable. This situation is discussed and it is proposed that chemical control should not be the only option available to the cane grower to reduce crop loss by nematodes.

ارزیابی کمّی خسارت بیماری نوک سفیدی برگ برنج ناشی از نماتود Aphelenchoides besseyi در شرایط گلخانه و میکروپلات

In order to estimate the loss of rice caused by white tip nematode, (Aphelenchoides besseyi), to Alikazemi cv., two series of experiments were conducted in greenhouse and microplot conditions at Rice Research Institute, Rasht (Guilan province) during 2005-2006. The microplots sizes were 0.5×2 meter. Rice seedlings were inoculated by plastic tube method with 0, 100, 300, 500, 700 and 900 nematod...

Survey of crop losses in response to phytoparasitic nematodes in the United States for 1994.

Previous reports of crop losses to plant-parasitic nematodes have relied on published results of survey data based on certain commodities, including tobacco, peanuts, cotton, and soybean. Reports on crop-loss assessment by land-grant universities and many commodity groups generally are no longer available, with the exception of the University of Georgia, the Beltwide Cotton Conference, and sele...

Impact of Nematodes on Sugarcane and the Benefit of Tolerant Varieties

The importance of growing sugarcane varieties that minimise losses from nematodes is linked to the effect that the nematodes have on the cane. Revised estimates of crop loss from nematodes in South Africa indicate a reduction in yield equivalent to more than 1.6 million tons cane per annum. The most pathogenic species on sugarcane, Meloidogyne javanica, is restricted to very sandy soils. The ot...

Augmentation and aldicarb treatment of nematodes in selected sugarcane weed habitats.

In a single experiment, field-grown Louisiana sugarcane was augmented with phytoparasitic nematodes, treated with aldicarb, or left untreated in both weedy and weed-free habitats to study interactions among nematodes, weeds, sugarcane, and sugarcane free amino acid titers. Aldicarb reduced three of the six phytoparasitic nematode genera at various times during the two growing seasons and was as...
